This garden has been a fun experience. It really taught us how planting your own food benefits you. Economically, it saves money, since you don't have to go grocery shopping as much. It benefits the environment by providing habitats for other species in the area, providing oxygen, reducing soil erosion, and keeping sediment out of streams. And it's been proven to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and decrease depression.
But the resources are needed to grow personal gardens, and many countries simply don't have those resources (like suitable soil or enough water). Of course, this won't solve world hunger, but it might alleviate it.
In terms of our garden, we did much better than we expected. When we first started this project, we joked with one another that we all did not have a green thumb. We were shocked to slowly see significant progress in our garden. When we first planted tomatoes, we were disappointed since the seedlings kept dying. Our luck with tomatoes seems to be poor, since once our seedling did well, someone took our seedling from the garden. However, once a seedling started to grow, it continued that progress. We were very proud that in the end of our project, we had one green tomato growing!
Sadly, our name is themed around lettuce but our lettuce did not do as well. It grow well in the beginning, but began to wilt after the first time we harvested them.
